Located in the middle of the famous Gimblett Gravels wine district in Hawkes Bay New Zealand, our vineyard is currently planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. The William Murdoch vineyards are unique in Hawke’s Bay because of our philosophy of using only organic grape growing and winemaking methods. Our organic methods give the vines a naturally spacious and de-vigourated canopy, with small, thick skinned intense berries and bunches. They also allow the vines to build a natural defence to disease which decreases the need for disease intervention.
The micro-climate here on the Gimblett Gravels is one of long hot summer days and cool nights providing a beautiful ripening climate for the grapes. The heat during the day creates an intense ripening of flavours while the cool nights allow us to retain a natural, juicy acidity in our wines. It is the intense flavour and juicy acidity that make William Murdoch wines perfect food matches.
